General info about both courses. Sponsored by PPS, Refugee Narratives consists of a 2 course progression (see below for more about PPS 210/HIST 250 & PPS 211/HIST 250). Students will need valid U.S. Passports to travel to Dharamshala, India (if you do not already have a passport, we can work with GOCI to help you obtain one).

PPS 210/HIST 250

Students must apply for and be accepted into the Principled Problem Solving Scholars Program in order to enroll in PPS 210/HIST 250. In interview groups of 2-3, students will become familiar with interviewing others and recording the audio from those conversations, including with some refugees in the Greensboro community, and creating Story Maps as a visualization of those oral histories.

We’ll travel to India April 25 – May 12 (please ensure that you will be able to come on the abroad portion of this course before agreeing to take part in PPS 210/HIST 250 & PPS 211/HIST 250). Students must have completed PPS 210/HIST 250 in the proceeding 14-week in order to take this course. Students’ final projects for this course includes creating two Story Maps, one visualizing the narrative of a refugee from Dharamshala as they tell it, and the other tracking students’ experiences traveling abroad. This course satisfies the Sociocultural Engagement requirement.
